We are located near between Austin and Houston in beautiful Washington County. This area is known for its rolling green hills, bluebonnets in the spring, quant historical towns and of course Blue Bell Ice Cream. While we don't own any milk cows we do raise those majestic gray humped cows, the American Gray Brahman. We live and work on the ranch while maintaining a Registered Brahman herd consisting of approximately 100 mother cows. At Salinas Ranch our main goal is to produce cattle with a strong emphasis on genetic improvements, high performance, top quality traits which will be an asset to our customers breeding program. We made some purchases over the past few years that have allowed us to take our herd to new levels. Our most recent acquisition was the majority of Edwards Brahman out of Starke, Florida. The Edwards cattle are very long bodied, have great top lines, very nice udders and are dog gentle. The Edwards herd now grazing in Texas has a heavy influence of Sugarland bloodlines. With the acquisition of the Edwards cattle along with our existing Sugarland pedigreed cows, we have the largest herd of 100% Sugarland based Brahman genetics in the US. Sugarland Corp of Clewiston, Florida developed one of the finest herds in Brahman history. The cattle were moderate in size, fertile, and were expected to produce. The cattle excelled in the show ring as well as in the pasture. The Sugarland herd was dispersed in the mid 1980's.The Sugarland cattle we own are thick, fertile, great milkers and have perfect udders. They are the easiest keeping cattle we own. We look forward to working with these unique cattle in developing outcross genetics for those who want something different in the Brahman breed.
